Dream Theory

Dream theory.
There are many theory and ideas on what dreams are. Most agree, "Dreams are the images, thoughts and feelings experienced while asleep, particularly strongly associated with rapid eye movement sleep. The contents and purpose of dreams are poorly understood, though they have been a topic of speculation and interest throughout recorded history". There have been many speculations on dreams and there purpose. It was historically and religiously thought that dreams where messages from good or the divine. There have many studies that state recurring themes in dreams.
"Content-analysis studies have identified common reported themes in dreams. These include: situations relating to school, being chased, running slowly/in place, sexual experiences, falling, arriving too late, a person now alive being dead, teeth falling out, flying, embarrassing moments, failing an examination, or a car accident". I also found that "Twelve percent of people dream only in black and white" which is very interesting to me as I dream in color and did not realize that it was possible to dream in black and white. Why do some dream in color and some in black and white? Froyd defined dreams as "psychologically as reflections of the subconscious" and his "theory of transference in the therapeutic relationship and the presumed value of dreams as sources of insight into unconscious desires".
The Surrealists tried to paint and make works based on the dreams. In particular "Un Cheine Andor lou" made in "1929", where by a Luis Buenell and Dali recorded there dreams and made a film from them. They believed that the subconscious was communicating with their conscious mind and suppressing there true masculine urges and desires. Benjamin B. Ferencz also said "Dreams may also create new ideas through the generation of random thought mutations. Some of these may be rejected by the mind as useless, while others may be seen as valuable and retained". I like the idea of using the stuff rejected by the mind as useless and making work with it.
