Social expectation
A friend told me that when visiting Japan he noticed that the homeless took there shoes off and left them outside of the cardboard boxes they slept in. He said that it was a custom to do so when you entered a home or dwelling. He noticed also that he often saw expensive designer shoes placed outside of boxes. When inquiring about this he was told that these where businessmen that had missed the last train home and so had sleep rough. What amazed him and I was that the homeless could have easily made money from this by stealing and selling the shoes. But some part of there customs meant that this did not enter there thinking.
Taking this into account social expectation of how and why we do things is very important. This feeds inherently into art and how we view what we see and how we connect images and objects to each other and find patterns.
